July 23 | 6:15 am - 8:15 am PDT
You are invited to participate in an ongoing citizen science project, monitoring sea stars in Yachats on Friday, July 23 at 6:15am.
Meet at Yachats State Park wooden platform on Oceanview Drive (north of the river) and we will head down to survey site together.
Wear a windproof jacket and shoes for walking on rocks and possibly getting wet. Instruction and survey equipment will be provided.
If you would like to join us, please RSVP to Tara DuBois, firstname.lastname@example.org
The data collected is used to help researchers understand the cause of sea star wasting syndrome and how it changes with time and location. For several years, the CoastWatch program of the Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition has been counting sea stars and looking for signs of illness at this location, adjacent to Cape Perpetua Marine Protected Area. Starting in 2018, the Cape Perpetua Collaborative stepped in to coordinate the surveys at Yachats State Park.
