Postponed – Yachats Beach Cleanup (SOLVE)
March 28, 2020 | 10:00 am - 1:00 pm PDT
SOLVE has post-poned this event to July 5.
The health and safety of Oregon’s communities has always been a priority to SOLVE. Due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19, our statewide Spring Oregon Beach Cleanup, presented by AAA, has been rescheduled for July 5, 2020. Beach Cleanups on July 5 are crucial in removing litter and debris left from 4th of July celebrations. We view this date change as an opportunity to focus on a different challenge facing the health and wellness of the Oregon Coast. SOLVE will be in contact with all pre-registered volunteers as soon as we confirm site locations for the July 5 date with our coastal partners and Beach Captains. We will also send out more information about how you can help out our beaches on your own between now and July!
Join SOLVE and the City of Yachats from 10 AM – 1 PM for a beach cleanup! Volunteers will check in at the Chamber of Commerce, then spread out to different beaches in the area. The nearby Cape Perpetua Marine Reserve is home to the highest concentration of marbled murrelets (a threatened seabird), rocky reefs, tidepools, and a wide diversity of rockfish. By volunteering in Yachats, you are helping to protect wildlife in this beautiful section of coast!
This event is part of the annual Spring Oregon Beach Cleanup, presented by AAA Oregon, a statewide effort to keep our beaches free of harmful litter.
Help us protect marine life and maintain the beauty of our coast. Be prepared by dressing for any weather and wearing sturdy shoes. You are encouraged to bring your own reusable bucket/bag, gloves, and water bottle to help reduce plastic waste. If you happen to forget, SOLVE will provide bags and gloves. Don’t forget about the small stuff! The most commonly found items of trash found on Oregon beaches are tiny bits of plastic and cigarette butts, which can be harmful to shore birds and marine life. Bring an old colander to sift the sand for these items. This beach cleanup is family-friendly, and volunteers of all ages will find the event fun and rewarding.
Remember our ocean shores can be dangerous. Avoid logs in the water. Keep your distance from marine mammals, and never turn your back on the ocean! Please keep dogs on a leash and steer clear of roped off Snowy Plover nesting areas. If you find any hazardous material, please alert your Beach Captain. And remember, it’s more fun to work as part of a team. Bring a buddy, stay safe and have fun!
Meet at the Yachats Chamber of Commerce. 241 Hwy-101 S. From North: the Chamber is on the right of HW 101 S Meet at the Yachats Chamber of Commerce.
