Join Vicki for an exploration of the history of forestry science and philosophy from the turn of the 20th century up through the current Siuslaw National Forest restoration efforts. A holistic, ecological approach to how we view old growth has led to dramatic changes in our understanding of this dynamic forest.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Vicki is the Director of the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center since 2019 and has worked in the Suislaw National Forest for 5 years. Prior to moving to the Oregon coast Vicki lived in interior Alaska for 28 years and was a District Interpreter at Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve. Between her time in Alaska and coming to Oregon, she worked at Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado and Aransas National Wildlife Refuge in Texas. She is a passionate advocate for public lands and increasing peoples’ understanding of them and their desire to conserve them. Her mantra is “we care for what we love”. Vicki lives in Waldport with Woody, her Newport Animal Shelter rescue dog. They can be seen on area beaches and trails whenever they can manage it.
